my girls

I recently read an interesting article* titled The Fine Line Between Marriage and Divorce. On the whole, it offered a rather bleak outlook on marriage. The great majority of the women the author spoke to had contemplated leaving their marriage at one point or another and many contemplated divorce on a regular basis. To me, this was surprising and, frankly, quite disheartening. The author claimed that "who stays married and who doesn't is a question not always about commitment or deep abiding love -- it's about endurance."

While I'm not sure that I agree with the author's conclusions on marriage, I did find one of her points very interesting. She says that "the wives with the highest marital satisfaction have a tight circle of wild women friends with whom to drink, travel and vent about their husbands." If that's true, I'm confident I'll be a happily married lady for some time.**

I am blessed with amazing girlfriends. We drink, we travel, and yes, on occasion, we even complain about the men in our lives. If that increases my marital satisfaction, great news. One more reason to love my hilarious, kind, supportive, fun, and amazing friends.

Allow me to introduce you to my "tight circle of wild women."

Love you ladies! So glad our crazy, boozin' ways are good for something other than a good time!

Also, you're all welcome. I came darn close to posting a series of hilariously embarrassing pictures of all of us. There was some good stuff. McD, you should be especially grateful. Half of them are of you dancing. :)

*Thanks Katie for bringing the article to my attention.
**I'm confident of this for other reasons. Namely, I married an amazing man whom I love very much. Not just because I've got fun, boozin' girlfriends. Just sayin'.

Girlfriends just make life better! I'm not sure how some girls live without them!

Great friends are a must, and I'm so jealous of all of yours! My good group of friends from college is literally completely scattered all over the entire country. We really only get together at weddings now, and I hate that we don't get to see each other more often.

I'm loving this post. Girlfriend are hands down the best! I know I'd be lost without the amazing ladies in my life. Your girls look just as wonderful, fun and supportive. Cheers to the great gals in our lives...we'd be lost without you!

That was a fun trip down memory lane! Seeing those pictures made me want to wear a scarf and some boots. I also think the pictures of McD should make an appearance. =)

I love this post. Even though I'm not married and have no babes, yet, I also feel so blessed to have such a great group of women. Frienship is the greatest gift, for sure! :)

I completely agree! There's nothing better than your girlfriends! Any time I have people over, it never fails that the guys and girls segregate into different areas of the house (you know, like a middle school dance just with adults). And it also never fails that the group of girls are doing exactly what the article says: drinking, talking about how we wish we could travel to fun places, and venting about their husbands!
PS: Your daughter is beautiful! Congratulations!

I'm catching up on all your post Melissa!! So glad to see you and Blair are doing so well. I loved seeing that Jilly was in every single "tight circle of girlfriend" picture! That being sad, I hope Blair isn't an only child!! Hugs, Ashlie
