How'd I end up here?

I have a blog. I'm not sure how that happened, but here I am. At this point, it seems appropriate to make a confession - I'm not sure this is a great idea.

You see, I'm a lawyer. And not the kind you see on Law & Order. You know - the type who spend their days in the courtroom,* ripping apart witnesses on cross-examination and making passionate appeals to juries. No, no, no. That's not me. Good lord, the thought of me talking to a jury without throwing up or crying is down right hysterical! I'm what they call a "transactional" attorney. I sit behind a desk, reading and writing all day. Do I really want to sit in front of the computer to write again when I (finally) get home at the end of the day? I suppose so, because here I am. And although I essentialy write for a living, writing about things that are personal does not always come easy to me. In fact, when I created our wedding website I spent so much time agonizing over writing THE perfect story about our relationship that I never finished it. Yep, that's right - I created an entire website sharing all the details of our impending wedding day with our friends and family, but never got around to telling them our story. I bet that page labeled "The Story of Us" is still sitting out there on the web, unfinished, as an eternal testament to my inability to follow through.

Thank goodness I had no trouble following through with the wedding! Marrying The Mister was without a doubt the best decision I have ever made. He's the yin to my yang, the red to my blue, the cheese to my macaroni. He's the best - and somehow I tricked him into marrying me! I am a lucky, lucky lady.

When I'm not spending time with The Mister, I'm probably with The Sister. I love that girl more than darling bathrooms. She's my best friend, partner in crime and the only person who can stand to shop with me. She's the absolute best person to share a drink with, hands down. The girl is a good time! We're lucky enough to have a fabulous group of friends to share our good times with. You'll find us in our favorite bar (booth 2!) sharing a drink on Friday nights, tailgating on fall Saturdays (GO KNIGHTS!), sitting poolside enjoying the warm Florida sunshine or spending a day on the couch taking in a Gossip Girl marathon. They are smart, beautiful, wonderful women and I wouldn't want to live a day without them. And, not coincidentally, they can all drink like sailors. Both an admirable and desirable quality in a friend, if you ask me!

When I'm not working, fighting The Mister for control of the Tivo, or sharing a drink with The Sister and the girls, you can probably find me in the kitchen cooking or baking. Ina Garten is my idol. I dream of the day I can trade in my suits and legal pads for an apron and a mixer. I'm sure pictures and tales of my kitchen experiments will find their way onto this blog from time to time.

I also love to read and shop. You'll find the J. Crew catalog at my house dog eared and covered in drool. In fact, it would probably save some time if I just had my paychecks direct deposited with J. Crew and Target every two weeks. Since a girl can't shop all the time, I'm always looking for recommendations for good books, so send them my way.

So, why do I wake up everday? For the love - of family, friends, food, football & fashion. I hope you'll follow along with me and my random ramblings on those things that bring the light to my life!

*Further proof that I'm not litigator - I actually had to Google "courtroom" to find out whether it is one word or two. Sad my friends, sad.
